We’re constantly looking to develop and improve the humyo products to bring you the best service possible. Recently you may have noticed the improvements made to the humyo sharing options, recycle bin, and file version history.

A run down of the most significant server changes going through beta testing today:
- A one-day delay has been introduced to the processing of ELV payments, to allow easier correction if customers order the wrong products.
- We now permit the concurrent editing of files, to avoid ‘File Locked’ errors. Concurrent edits are resolved with “last to finish wins”, with the other versions of the file available under “Previous Versions”.
- A bug has been fixed which will allow collaborators to see the ‘edit on your computer’ and ‘edit in snipshot’ actions.
- We have switched over to the new EU Vat Number service, which should fix the issue with validating VAT numbers at signup
We have extended the unsupported browser page that is displayed to some of our users in a hope to persuade them to choose an alternative browser or at least make them aware of any upgrades to there current one.
The page now explains why they should upgrade there browsers and the benefits they will see from doing so, in some cases we also make the user aware of some known problem for there browser, we currently do this for IE6 and Firefox on the Mac.
Other UI updates for 14/04 to 23/04
- Demoted IE6 to an unsupported browser, due to it’s age and rendering problems.
- Demoted FireFox on Mac to an unsupported browser, due to Java problems.
- Any new trial users are now redirect to the client download page after sign up.
- Minor fixes for changes made in the previous speed up work.
- Updated the address for UK and FR offices on the contact page.
- Removed the ability to share a selection of files via email from the sharing panel.
Week two of our continuing effort to get you more involved in humyo, sees a venture beyond the Development Team and out into the exciting, sometimes dangerous space occupied in the humyo office by the UI guys!
As you may have gather from last week’s edition of Meet the Team, far from wanting to bore you with the in’s and out’s of humyo life (which we actually find exciting) this weekly update from our team will help you put a name to the interface!
Mark Harwood is the focus of our attention, and we managed to drag him away from his computer(s) just long enough to bring you his Meet the Team slot.
Over the last couple of days we have been working hard to increase the initial load time of the File Manager.
This was achieved by reducing the number of HTTP requests a user would make by unifying as much of our CSS and Javascript as possible. Along side this we also took advantage of a technique known as spriting to merge commonly used images into a single file.
On top of this we have enabled gzipping which in itself give a vast speed improvement by reducing the actual file size of assets when served. We then finish the entire process by improving our assets caching options, which prevents users from requesting assets they have previously downloaded.
Initial test show the following results:
- 53% Decrease in number of requests
- 68% Decrease in total file size transferred
- 46% Increase in total load time for the browser
- 66% Increase for load when cached!
- 57% Increase on Mobile site when viewing 10 images

As part of a continuing effort to get you more involved in humyo, we have decided to let you in through the doors and into the depths of the humyo workshop.
Far from wanting to bore you with the in’s and out’s of humyo life (which we actually find exciting) this weekly update from our team will help you put a face to the code!
This week John Berthels is the focus of our attention.
A run down of recent UI releases, the majority of this release our tweaks behind the scene to help the File Manager load up quicker by reducing the number of HTTP requests made.
- Removed code duplication (CopyMoveTree) from the File Manager to reduce number of HTTP request made.
- Spring cleaning of CSS to also reduce the number of CSS files included.
- Unify our most commonly used Javascript files into a single libraries.js.
- Gather commonly displayed images and include use as a single sprite.
- Renamed “Move this folder” to “Copy or Move this folder” as people could not find the copy functionality.
- Remove the “New Sharing” alert from users My Files page.
