  • Faster change journal processing. When a file is modifed on the server, the client gets all information from the server change journal rather, avoiding the need to query information from the server before downloading the file; this should make sync a little bit faster.
  • Speed up shutdown of the software. A 5 second shutdown has been reduced by 0.75 seconds through optimisation of save state code.
  • If a file transfer fails, remove bytes done so far from the total. This should prevent “bytes to do” going below zero, and put an end to preposterous time estimates caused by 64-bit wraparound.
  • Support for unsupported filenames. It’s possible to create files on the server with names that the client’s filesystem doesn’t handle well (like “foo ” (on windows) or “..” (on anything) ). The client will now ignore these rather than failing to sync.
  • Improved error reporting. If a file is in the “waiting” state, display the reason why attempting to sync it failed in the pending files dialog. Waiting for files is shown when all remaining files cannot be synced (e.g. because the local application has them locked)
  • Made invalid state handling a little bit more robust. Files which can’t be synced due to a file with the same name on the other side which should have been deleted due to changes made on the first file’s side will now get synced more reliably instead of possibly getting stuck in a loop.
  • Reset fail counts when a same-side directory merge removes a reason why files might fail. This should make syncs of recursively merge-requiring directory trees faster.
  • Fixed a bug that caused files to sometimes not be displayed in the pending files dialog.
  • Fixed a problem with the delete of folders containing excluded files. Deleting a directory with files in it is more likely to actually delete the directory on the other side in the next sync (instead of causing the deleted directory to come back). Deleted directories which really should come back will still do so.
  • Disable logging when uploading log files – this makes log uploading more likely to work.
  • Allow other processes to delete or rename files which we are reading. (This actually works; if someone else deletes the file, our open handle can still be used). Fixes bug where cannot rename newly created folder in explorer.
  • Made sync a bit more responsive to state changes – status changes to “synced” immediately rather than when the next 30 second poll notices syncing has finished.
  • Fixed a bug which causes files/folders deleted from the local hard disk when SmartDrive was not running to be downloaded from the server restoring the file rather than deleted from the server when SmartDrive is started.
  • Don’t send status messages to the client process unless the status has changed. Reduces CPU usage.
  • Use search cache to find dead file states to be cleaned up, reduces CPU usage.
  • Path conflicts (e.g. file moved to different places at the same time) are no longer reported to the user, we instead take the latest destination.
  • Embed in a webpage option removed from context menu – accessible via link dialog now to match new sharing functionality in online interface.
  • In the transfer rate dialog, dragging the slider to the extreme right (so that the “unlimited” text appears) and then pressing “OK” or “Apply” now actually turns off the transfer rate limiting.
  • Load transfer rate limiting settings at the start of a sync; this prevents the core from “forgetting” them when it is restarted.
  • Fixed a bug which sometimes caused files to wait for a very long time when transfer rate limiting was used
  • Fixed a problem with deleted files briefly showing up as moving in the UI.
  • Fixed some problems with reporting sync progress percentage for files which are modified without sending all of the file data

We’ve all been working hard over the last few weeks to deliver the improved humyo sharing features, which i’m glad to say have gone live today!

If you’ve kept up-to-date with our recent ’sharing posts’, you should by now be teetering with anticipation at what awaits!

The development team have changed the way free trials and vouchers are applied for resellers’ customers created via our API.

Previously, only one trial per reseller was allowed, that restriction has now been lifted, making it one trial per customer.

    • Sharing Panel All sharing settings have been grouped in the right-hand panel within the web file manager and removed from the context and tasks menu. This simplifies the context menu and means that in conjunction with consolidating the Move and Copy dialogs into one dialog, the options shown in the common tasks and context menus can now be identical, resolving a useability issue. Existing users may need explaination that link is accessible through the link icon in the sharing panel, custom message/collaborator sharing is accessible by entering a user in the input field in the sharing panel and clicking “enter custom message” and that Embed is available by clicking the embed icon in the link dialog.
    • Shareable links are links, available for files, folders and selections of files by clicking the link icon in the sharing panel. They give anyone following the link direct read-only access to the item(s) without the need to login or open a humyo account. Unlike the old public links, people following one shareable link cannot see items shared via another share link. This functionality delivers the most requested feature and resolves the most reported confusion in relation to our sharing functionality. Buttons to copy the link have been implemented in the web file manager link dialog (flash required) and the SmartDrive client link dialogs (SmartDrive 2.2.1+)
    • Share overlay There is now one share overlay, using the icon from the share icon project which is shown on any files with any kind of sharing enabled for them. There is no longer a different overlay for files with public sharing and those with only specific user sharing.
    • Friend and Public sharing has been removed. This simplifies the experience for new users. Existing users that do not want to add each friend one by one or who for whatever reason, want to set public permissions may enter the keywords ‘friends’ or ‘public’ into the share with input field in the sharing panel. This will grant permission to all people on their friends list or an old style public permission. Files that had friend shares will have those shares changed into shares with each person on their friends list at the time of the launch of this functionality. Files that already had public access keep it and so all links will continue to work. A file with public access shows as “Public link” in the sharing panel whereas a file with the new style link and no public access shows as “Shareable link” in the sharing panel. Disabling links disables both public and shareable links.
    • Social Networks It is possible to post directly to social networks using the social network icons in the sharing panel. Posting media (including whole folders or selections) to facebook and myspace embeds the humyo media player in the social networking site. For other sites and content types, a shareable link is posted on the social networking site.
    • Accessing shared files People accessing shared files can no longer see who else the files are shared with which resolves another frequently complaint in relation to our sharing functionality. Users that follow a shareable link that are logged in or who login after following the link are added to the share list for the items so that those items appear in their Shared With Me section and they can access them by logging into humyo in the future, without having to follow the link again.
    • Auto-completer A new auto-completer for specifiying a group of users has been implemented in the custom message sharing dialog, the workspace/organisation administrators dialog and the edit teamspace dialog.
    • Resellers’ customers sharing with a specified person results in an e-mail to the specified person with a direct link to the file, rather than to a signup page which improves sharing for resellers’ that do not offer free accounts since their customers can now share with people that do not have an account
    • The URI format for image thumbnails has changed to support new options (minimum height/width) and remove those un-used (padding). The icon overlay watermark added to hot-linked images has been made smaller so that people can hot-link images if they wish to. User profile icons are now square.

We’ve made an improvement to the way you are billed when upgrading from one plan to another (for example from a Premium account to a Workspace account).

The system will no longer bill you for the unused time on your old plan if you change over during your monthly or yearly billing period. Instead we’ll calculate the difference between your two plans for the remainder of the month or year and just bill you the difference.
